Born and raised in scenic North Vancouver, Shaun has been involved in the Canadian Vending and Franchise industry for the past 20 years. Shaun entered into the industry as a franchise support representative with a large international printing franchise. Since that time Shaun has worked with a successful Western Canadian coffee chain as well as several food distributorship programs which lead naturally to the vending industry with National Vending Corp the parent company of Max! Canadian Healthy Vending.
Shaun is married with 2 children. When not working or spending quality time with the family, enjoys working on classic cars and practicing Taekwondo.
BeTheBoss: Tell us about the Max Healthy Vending concept.
Shaun Casey: We are Max! Canadian Healthy Vending. Canada’s premier healthy vending program.
BTB: How and when did you become involved with Max Healthy Vending?
SC: I have been with the program since its inception two years ago.
BTB: What was your background prior to joining Max Healthy Vending?
SC: Prior to Joining Max! I have been working at National Vending Corp (the parent company of Max!) as the Vice President of Operations. National Vending has been in the business of manufacturing and distributing vending equipment for the Canadian Market for over 2 decades (since 1989).

BTB: Who is your ideal franchisee?
SC: Our ideal franchisee is passionate about making a positive change in the daily lives of Canadians and sees the glass as “half full” not “half empty. Attitude is the most important ingredient. The market is here – we need the right partners with the right attitude to succeed!
BTB: Tell us a little about the vending Market?
SC: The Vending Industry in North America is now over $42 Billion. This makes vending the largest cash business in the world. The Canadian industry has experienced some dramatic changes in the past, like the introduction of the $1 and $2 coins. The changes we are now experiencing with healthy vending can be better described as a revolution. The work place vending machine is one of the very last places that consumers are unable to buy healthy products. Max! has now changed that. Our machine is branded specifically for healthy drinks and snacks and provides the greatest opportunity for individual operators that we have seen in our 22 years in the industry.
BTB: What are some of the greatest lessons you’ve learned in growing this franchise?
SC: The greatest lessons we have learned when developing the Max! Program is to listen to our partners and our customers. Our partners are always providing great ideas and suggestions from their communities. Our customers are (the end user who is purchasing from our machines at locations across Canada) encouraged us to develop the exclusive Max! Menu program which allows them to select which products they would like in their machine by going online and making their own personal selections. Max! Menu is an industry first and it is going over very well!
BTB: Do you have a mentor and is their someone you use for inspiration?
SC: My mentor would be Richard Branson at Virgin. He inspires us by the way that he is always rethinking the way he looks at his products and services. Most of all, he sets out from the beginning to have fun with everything that he does. After all -if business cannot be fun – then why should we bother?
BTB: What advice do you have for someone looking to acquire a Franchise?
SC: When looking for a business opportunity I think it is important that you ask a couple of questions. Am I buying a job? Or am I actually investing in a program that will make my life easier? Is there a way to duplicate myself? To avoid trading my time for dollars? Is this the type of venture where I can be with my family, on vacation and my business is still generating income?
