Our automotive technicians take pride on being leading experts of transmission and technology, continuously learning to perfect their trade. Mister Transmission has spent over 50 years building trust amongst consumers by providing quality repairs, expert service, and outstanding warranty protection. How and when did you become involved with Mister Transmission franchise business?

RM: I first became involved with Mister Transmission in 1977, as store manager of a Mister shop.

What was your background prior to joining Mister Transmission franchise?

RM: Growing up, I was always outgoing and business-minded. Over the years I grew into an automotive enthusiast, who really excelled in customer relations. Mister Transmission franchise gave me the opportunity I needed to hone my skills. Without their training and guidance, I wouldn’t be the man I am today.

What are some of the advantages in being a Mister Transmission franchise business owner (franchisee)?

RM: Consumer trends indicate Canadians place more trust in a recognizable name, than an independent store. This is particularly true in the automotive repair industry, where Mister Transmission has spent over 50 years building brand awareness and trust in the marketplace. Our Mister’s (which is what we call our owners) receive ongoing support and training, iconic brand recognition, and access to Canada’s largest network of transmission and technology experts. In addition, Mister Transmission provides a family-friendly work environment and unmatched work-life balance; as they enjoy the freedom of business work hours.

Who is your ideal franchise business owner (franchisee)?

RM: One of the biggest misconceptions is that you have to be a mechanic to be in this business - not true! The ideal franchisee is someone who is business-savvy, with strong customer service skills, and is a natural born leader.

Tell us a little about the Mister Transmission Market?

RM: Canada’s aftermarket is booming. There are more vehicles on the road today than any other time in history. The automotive aftermarket industry in Canada has been estimated to employ nearly half a million people and generate over $15 billion each year. Today’s high-tech vehicles are also lasting longer, which means there is more repair dollars being spent than ever before. As the Canadian population continues to grow, so will these numbers. In this business, the opportunities are endless.

What are some of the greatest lessons you’ve learned in growing this franchise business?

RM: During my time at Mister Transmission, the greatest lesson I’ve learned is to accept help. Accepting input and assistance from others will only add value to your business. I also learned to be patient – all good things come to those who wait, as they say.

Do you have a mentor and is their someone you use for inspiration?

RM: I have many mentors. Not to bore you with names, I’ll just say that my mentors are all business owners, from all types of industries.

What advice do you have for someone looking to acquire a franchise opportunity?

RM: Be realistic and patient - nothing good comes overnight. Organization, planning and strategizing is the key to ongoing success.

In your opinion, why do you think that Mister Transmission would be a great franchise opportunity for someone?

RM: Mister Transmission has a 50 year proven track record of success – we’re not industry leaders for nothing! We’re also different from our competitors as we specialize in one thing, and do it brilliantly.
