This Be the Boss spotlight is on the Right at Home Canada franchise business in Burlington, Ontario.
Right at Home franchise owner Dani dePetrillo grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. Her father is a retired cancer surgeon, her mother a retired teacher. Dani used to do weekend rounds with her father, sitting on his shoulders as he visited patients. She was exposed to his compassionate bedside manner at a very young age, which instilled in her a passionate interest in health care. Initially, Dani wanted to be a doctor but her business degree led her towards the business side of health care. Realizing that people with a lot of heart were also needed on the business side of the health industry, Dani knew that her personality was the right fit.
Dani has over fifteen years of patient care, client service and managerial experience in the health care field. She became an owner and regional manager for a group of community-based health and wellness centres that operated facilities across Canada, integrating services with other providers through a public-private model. Dani co-owned four interdisciplinary physical rehabilitation therapy clinics where they served people who had suffered workplace and sport injuries, been in car accidents, and/or had chronic diseases. Her job was multifaceted, but focused heavily on patient services. She was at the patients' side every day, learning what they needed.
Dani joined the Right at Home Canada family in 2012. Her Right at Home franchise services families in their care assessment and care planning needs in the Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga Ontario regions. Her philosophy is to care for those in need in the community as she would her own family.
"We look at the whole person and his/her family situation. People have medical needs, but they also have social and recreational needs. The Right at Home business model combines person-centred care, which starts with a very intensive assessment, with best practice standards for accountability, communications between agencies and a continuity of care. It's still a new idea in Canada, but 10 years from now, people will come to expect it." She adds, "Our slogan 'adding life to years' is extremely motivational for me. It's immensely rewarding knowing everything we do revolves around a commitment to help people live better, more enjoyable lives."
If you're considering any role within a Right at Home business, it doesn't take long to discover that this franchise business is more than an average job. "To me, the easiest way to summarize not only our corporate culture but our promise to our clients, is we have a very family based approach at Right at Home. We are acting as an extension of the families we serve. We have very open door policies: nothing is too great to ask us." At a corporate level, we say, 'When you put us around a table, all you see are big smiles and big hearts.' The staff at our Right at Home franchise work together as a family and as a group. It's indicative of what we're trying to communicate to the communities we work in and the clients we serve.
