Fibrenew Edmonton Franchisee Don Barnhouse Lighting the Way

Fibrenew, a plastic, vinyl and leather repair and restoration franchise with a customer service culture, has an area leader in its Edmonton location. Led by franchisee Don Barnhouse, who spent more than three decades in the family-run grocery segment, Fibrenew Edmonton was already a thriving 20-year-old store when Barnhouse took it over in 2010, and it has only grown since then.

Serving a region of more than one million people means Barnhouse has to run a tight ship. According to the franchisee, his location sees high- and low-end items, from bonded to genuine leather. His customer base is as diverse as they come, with acreage owners far outside the city limits to downtown apartment residents.

The Edmonton franchisee handles all of the scheduling and quoting, freeing up his two technicians to serve the territory more efficiently. He also has an upholstery tech who assists when needed and a skilled contractor for service calls. His wife, Karin, is a costume designer for a nearby theater company with expert sewing skills.

A rapidly growing customer base does not come out of nowhere, and Barnhouse recognizes both the support from Fibrenew’s head office and word-of-mouth as factors in his success. He's also thrilled with his transition from grocery management to mobile repair services, citing the flexibility and the ability to spend more time with his family, along with the opportunity Fibrenew gives him to help other people solve their problems.

Fibrenew offers market-specific services, such as residential, medical and auto plastic, vinyl and leather restoration and repair, and specialty services, including leather cleaning and protection. Started back in 1987, Fibrenew has since grown into a leader in its industry with a number of successful locations.
