Last week, Vancouver-based burger purveyors, Vera’s Burger Shack, launched a new menu featuring the “Lions Burger” - a hamburger tribute to the 2011 Grey Cup Champion, BC Lions.
“We felt that after 20 years in the burger business, Vera’s menu needed a little refresh” explains Vera’s co-owner, former BC Lions Defensive Tackle, and four-time Grey Cup Champion, Noah Cantor . “All of the favourites are still there, including our Canuck Burger, but we’ve added some excellent new items, including a nod to our boys in orange - the “Lions Burger”. We’re really proud to be a preferred supplier of the BC Lions, and to show our support, during the Lions’ season Vera’s will donate $1 to “Courage For Kids” for every Lions Burger sold.”
“Courage for Kids” is a BC Lions program, in partnership with the United Way of the Lower Mainland, helping out children and families who are financially unable to attend sporting events. The Lions Burger is a 6oz Vera patty with cheddar, two Brew City Onion Rings, lettuce, tomato, and Vera’s sauce. Other additions to Vera’s new menu include the Philly Cheese Steak Poutine, Vera’s Chop Salad, a 4oz burger option on the menu, and smoked white cheddar on several of Vera’s burgers. From its humble origins as a single beach concession down at Dundarave Pier in West Vancouver over 20 years ago, Vera’s Burger Shack has grown to 17 locations in the Lower Mainland. Vera’s burgers, which are made fresh in-store daily, were invited to compete last year in Las Vegas for the title of ‘Best Burger in the World’, putting their patties to the test against a bevvy of bountiful burgers at the World Food Championships hosted by Adam Richman ( http://www.worldfoodchampionships.com/burger ).
Vera’s Burger Shack was one of only 50 burger restaurants invited from across the globe - from Shanghai to London and all points in between - and finished as the top burger among Canadian competitors. Vera’s will again compete for the title this November.
In addition to dominating Vancouver’s “Best Burger” awards for the last 10 years, and their highly respectable showing internationally, Vera’s Burger Shack has also won bronze medals for “Best Veggie Burger” in the 2013 and 2012 Georgia Straight Golden Plates Awards.
Voted ‘Vancouver’s Best Burger’ 10 years running by the Georgia Straight, Westender and Courier reader polls, Vera’s Burger Shack is THE place to watch the game, enjoy a fresh, tasty burger and drink a cold beer or milkshake. With 17 locations in British Columbia and a location in the Nation’s Capital, Vera’s has established itself as the burger experience to beat.
