MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Canada – Thanh and Mike Mitrovic own the Minuteman Press Franchise located at 36-1225 Queensway East. They recently held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for their family-owned design, marketing, and printing centre. Thanh says, “We are a professional business offering our customers graphic design services, digital printing, and promotional products. We know our clients’ brands are their identity and we want to help them promote their businesses.”
Prior to owning their own business, Mike worked in the tool and die industry for over 30 years. Thanh says, “I was a stay at home mom for our three boys, who are now ages 7 (twins) and 9 years old. His previous industry was very time consuming and Mike would not be able to be involved on the kids’ activities if we didn’t make the change to Minuteman Press. We value full family involvement and this allows us to be together and involved in our children’s lives including attending their hockey games.”
For Thanh and Mike, Minuteman Press offered certain benefits including normal business hours and a convenient location. “We work Monday-Friday 8:30 – 5:30 hours and no weekends. Our centre is 7 minutes away from our home and close to the kids’ school. Also, our decision to open the business in this community was based on the opportunities available to find customers as there are over 4,500 businesses operating around us.”
In fact, the most rewarding thing about owning their business is being able to spend time together as a family as well as connecting with the community. Thanh explains, “Even though we are spending a lot of time on the business we are also getting back family time. It is also rewarding in that we are getting to know our community as some of our customers are coming from our neighbourhood yet we didn’t know about them.”
Thanh continues to talk about community involvement, saying, “We are very involved with the Port Credit Hockey Association (PCHA). Our twin boys, Mihailo and Jovan, are both Minor Novice players for the PCHA. Mihailo plays on the Rep Level team and Mike is the manager for that team. Our son Nikola is an AA player with the Duffield Devils Hockey Association (which is part of the Greater Toronto Hockey League) and we are very involved with that association as well.”
As they continue to build their business, Thanh and Mike are also happy with the ongoing local support that is provided by Minuteman Press International Regional Vice President Kevin Wittal and Field Representative Darwin Caswell. “The support has been amazing. We are so happy to be in business and the journey was made that much easier by having the support of Kevin and Darwin locally as well as Minuteman Press World Headquarters. Not only did we purchase the franchise, we bought a commercial unit in which to operate the business. A lot of consideration about how the space would look like and function was needed and the support from MMP was great.”
Thanh continues, “We both went to the two-week training in Farmingdale, New York and our training continued after that as there was just so much to learn and we relied particularly on Darwin to help us get to through everything we needed to know. We are still learning and as much as we are part of a franchise we believe that we are also a part of a family.”
What advice would Thanh and Mike have for other people who are looking to own a business? “It is hard work with many ups and downs but, as with most things in life, the potential for success is very well worth it!”
