KFC, with the launch of a new marketing ploy, has become the
world'''s first brand to be visible from outer space. The purveyor
of "finger-licking good" fried chicken has built an 87,500 square
foot version of its founder and icon, Colonel Sanders, in the
Nevada desert. The stunt is part of a global re-brand of the firm's
icon in which the colonel drops his white suit jacket for a red
apron. He will be keeping the bow tie, glasses and goatee however.
This is the fourth time in the last 50 years the logo is to be
updated. The giant image of the colonel is located near the
secretive Area 51, well known for UFO sightings. It was created by
a team of 50 designers, engineers, scientists and architects using
one-foot by one-foot painted tile pieces. The new-look colonel will
appear in more than 14,000 KFC outlets in 80 countries over the
next five years.
