When Kevin White decided to buy the OUR HOMES franchise for York Region, he had two goals: financial success and creating a great lifestyle for himself and his family. Now, six months after completing training, he is well on his way to achieving both.
Kevin, who hailed from a high-level position at American Express prior to joining the OUR HOMES team, says he is receiving a very positive response from advertising customers.
When asked what initially drew him to OUR HOMES, he says,
“My wife really loved the magazine and would read each issue faithfully cover to cover. When I was laid off after 12 years with the same company, I was not sure what I would do next. Six months later when my wife was reading the Our Homes magazine from our area, she noticed an ad that they were looking for Franchisees, and the rest as they say is history.”
But, like any business, it takes effort within your start-up phase.
“There is lots of competition in the marketplace, also I'm
entering the marketplace at the end of many of my prospects’ fiscal
year end and budgets have been spent,” he says. But he is building
his business, one customer at a time.
“One of the largest paint stores in my territory was not very interested in getting a "sales pitch" from yet another publication and literally hung up on me. I was determined that he was a great fit for the magazine so I went in two weeks later and showed him the magazine. He took a couple of minutes to flip through the magazine and booked a full page ad on the spot.”
Kevin says he is on track to “have all 3 Our Homes Magazines in York Region up and running successfully within 3 years, with a lot of very satisfied customers.”
