The business began as a small landscape maintenance company based in Caledon, Ontario Canada. In 1987 Tim van Stralen launched Sunshine Landscape Inc., along with a few of his brothers and began to make his dreams a reality. The initial years achieved rapid expansion and soon all ten van Stralen brothers were working in the business together. They realized that the traditional family values that bound them all together also made for effective business qualities as well. Over time, these qualities enabled each and every one of the brothers’ personal and business goals to be achieved.
By 2005, the demand for Grounds Guys® services was quickly out-pacing the brothers’ ability to effectively service their clientele. After carefully evaluating the alternatives, the brothers concluded that franchising was the most effective means of capturing and focusing the energies and ambitions of like-minded individuals towards a common goal. In 2010, a groundbreaking agreement was reached with The Dwyer Group® to build the franchise system in the USA. Although separately owned and operated companies, due to trademark issues with the name Sunshine, the company rebranded to The Grounds Guys®. Now, the fast-growing Grounds Guys® franchise network is operating in over 180 markets across the U.S. and Canada. Each location shares the same core values and Culture of CARE that the brand is built upon.
